Guest buickorbust
I was excited in finding a car similar to my first car, but getting discouraged about title problem. Need to find id numbers on car other than the normal decal. Would appreciate knowing where to look for these numbers. Thanks
buick5563
The VIN used to register the car is on a piece of aluminum tacked to the front of the door jamb on the driver's side.
sean1997
The engine serial number could also have been used to title the car. Since the engine serial and the car serial number are different for 1956 and earlier Buicks, you might want to check the engine serial number. For 1955 the engine serial number should be stamped on the left side (driver side) of the engine block between the middle branches of the exhaust manifold. See attached picture for the location. buick5563
With what Sean said, I will add the disclaimer that 55 body and engine numbers don't match. I am mostly telling the OP this in case he bought a "numbers matching" car. All of my titles use the VIN on the A pillar, FWIW
old-tank
All of my 55's that were originally titled in Texas use the engine number as noted above. The only other number is on the top of the left rear frame rail...easy to read only if you remove the body....that number was originally stenciled on the driver side frame flat side (usually long gone). What is the style of the vin on the title...may help with location to look.Willie Edited July 12, 2013 by old-tank (see edit history)
