My 35 40 series's engine looks pretty good except for the bare exhaust manifold. What paint or coating should I use on it to make it look good or factory. Porcelin, ceramic, paint? Thanks. Greg.

slip plate is a graphite based paint available at Ace hardware stores in quarts used in AG applications and others where you want the surface to be slippery and slide easily, it also makes cast iron gray like factory and goes on easily with a brush doesn't last forever, but neither does my money, can be redone fairly easily and quickly, did I mention cheap, like me.

Hi Greg, Factory pictures of 1939 and 1941 Buick assembly, show that the factory painted the engine after the intake and exhaust manifolds were installed. However, re-painting the exhaust manifold in engine color isn't a long term solution to keeping it rust free. I suggest checking the catalogs of firms that sell restoration products (such as The Eastwood Co.) for a high temperature paint that has a grey cast iron appearance. Grandpa

I've had good luck with Eastwood exhaust manifold paint. Does not last for ever, but on an occasionally driven car, it will be fine. Easy to apply with a brush, on the car or off.

Another vote for VHT. I cleaned all the rust off of my manifold and sprayed it with VHT Flame Proof Clear. The VHT flame proof line is made specifically for very high temp. applications and can be bought at almost any auto parts store for around 8 bucks a can. Just make sure you follow the directions to the letter.

Not to be picky, but Shadertree, you know you are missing the front bolt on #1 EX. I can see the fenders are off, so maybe you have addressed this by now.

But then again Marty has rusty nuts........

With his attention to detail, I would have thought they would be chrome acorns.
