Guest Buickman56
I've got a 47 Super convertible, original straight 8 and 3 speed manual transmission. The old knees aren't what they used to be so I was wondering if it would be possible to swap in a 48 or 49 dynaflow onto the existing straight 8 or would I need to do a complete engine/tranny swap? Anyone do something like this before?
Pete Phillips
My understanding is that the crankshafts are different between standard shift and Dynalflow equipped Buicks. Dynaflow did not come out until 1948. You will have the additional complication of different placement of the motor mounts between 1947 and 1948 (and newer) straight eights--front to rear versus side to side change in motor mount location. I think you are better off to look for another car with automatic transmission. Pete Phillips, BCA #7338
