Update: I've dropped the price to $1500.00. I know the parts are worth at least that much, since I had to pay nearly $300 for a new ABS Master Cylinder a couple of years back. It will be listed here for one more week, if interested.

I need to move my '90 Reatta to make room for a new toy (corvette). This car has been in my family since it was purchased new in October of 1990. It currently has 126,000 miles. It has a small dent on the front bumper, from a fender bender, but the body is in great shape in general. It has never been wrecked beyond that fender bender. The car is in Wildwood, Missouri. $2300.00 OBO.

So someone needs to help me understand how this works. I see similar cars on here with purchase offers already, but nothing on this one. Not even a comment. Thoughts?

Ukcatssfan,

Selling on here can be hit or miss, mainly for one reason. Almost everyone who is on here routinely owns at least one Reatta already. So, the target audience is mostly existing owners who may consider buying another Reatta for their collection. I own two myself, and would like to get another eventually, but is not practical for me to consider right now. While not speaking for anyone else, I suspect many are in the same situation due to either a lack of space, lack of funds, or lack of an understanding spouse. Most here tend to be somewhat discriminating buyers as if they already own one or more Reattae, they know what to look for, and what they want.

I know that I only seriously consider cars that are certain color combinations, while others I am simply not interested because they are of interior or exterior colors I don't much care for. So, these kinds of considerations further impact the ability to sell here. I would say the more ad exposure you have (different sites/forums) the better. Probably post on craigslist, maybe ebay and other auto classified sites to get more views, and hopefully a buyer will pop up.

Also seems like the Reatta is disadvantaged in resale because:

1. it is a coupe, and lacks practicality for anyone who needs to haul more than two people at a time

2. is viewed by the uninformed as a strange car that is hard to find parts for, and is too complicated to maintain.

3. is just new enough still not to qualify as a collectable car, but is also just old enough to scare away people who don't want to do a lot of work to keep a car roadworthy. At least that is the perception.

4. Those who really admire the Reatta for it's styling and historical significance are a very small group with a specific want of this car. The general public seems largely disinterested except for their quizzical looks and periodic complements on seeing one out someplace.

Hang tough, even with the minor paint/body issues on your car, I think you have the price reasonable. Often it just takes time to find the right buyer. My 88, the second one I purchased, was for sale for over a year before I snagged it. If you are looking for a quick sale, I realize that is not what you want to hear, but it has been my observation that these are not the easiest cars to sell.

By the way, I think I saw your car parked at a Dierberg's market out in Chesterfield a few weeks ago while I was working during the day. Caught my attention, as my own two are the only ones I see around routinely.

Good luck!

KDirk

Kevin, thanks for the comments. Yes..it is often parked near Dierberg's in Chesterfield - my office is in the same parking lot! I do need to sell it, so I'll try something additionally besides craigslist.
