All Buick Open Show In Puyallup WA

My local chapter of the BCA is hosting the Annual All Buick Open on Saturday June 22nd in downtown Puyallup. There will probably be over 100 Buicks from the early 1900's all the way up to the newer Buicks. Everything from brass era cars to 40's and 50's to GS cars to Grand Nationals to Roadmaster wagons. There is even a class for custom Buicks. This is not a points judged event, it is a peer judged event. If you aren't going to the Reatta Round-up in California, this would be a great show to go to. Your car needn't be a show car, bring it and you'll have a great time. Even if you don't bring a car, where else are you going to see 100 + Buicks gathered here in the Northwest? There is a charge to show your car but you can look for free. It is held in conjunction with Meeker Days which is a street festival for the town of Puyallup so there will be plenty to do for the whole family. Let me know if you want an entry form. I'll be there.

If you want to display your car, preregistration cost is $15 if you are a BCA member, $18 if you are not, or $20 day of show. It is held in downtown Puyallup, not at the fairgrounds. If you are not showing a car, there is no cost. Parking begins around 7AM but you can come later. We have had upwards of 175 cars when the weather cooperated. The 100 car figure is usual if the weather is bad. Using my somewhat faulty memory, the most Reattas I've seen there is 5. Everything is welcomed. You do not need a show car to participate. Years ago I entered my '65 Skylark that had some rust, and 3 different colored fenders. I have always had a great time there.

7AM is not unheard of. I'm recommending people who attend the Reatta Rally come during the 7AM hour (and I already have an area reserved just for Reattas). With 450+ cars expected to attend the All GM Car Show, the registration line quickly grows. I'm sure the same applies to Puyallup (it sounds like a great show).

Greg - is this show all Buick, all the time or are other GM models welcome?

7AM is when they START parking cars. I have seen cars register and park after Noon but if you are hoping to win an award, the longer your car is there, the better chance you will have. Also if the weather is nice and you arrive late your goody bag may be lighter than those handed out at 9AM. C'mon down and I am sure you will have a great time. Be sure to look me up. Just ask at the registration table if they know where I am. Typically voting ends at 1 or 2 and awards start at 4PM (need not be present to receive awards).

Bushwack, this show is for Buicks only although I think that the Modified Class only requires Buick power. It would pay to check before coming though. It is a great show and very friendly. Where else are you going to find over 100 Buicks at one show in the Northwest? There are many classes with awards for first, second and third in class as well as most ambitious project, greatest distance, and most improved as well as best of show and people's choice. The Local Chapter of the Pontiac Club holds their annual car show on the next day, Sunday, at the same venue. There is also an All GM picnic held around the same date but I have no information on that one.

If the weather's good (and it's supposed to be) I'll leave early and try to be down there by about 8. I think I'll just pay the extra $2 and register on the day. I look forward to meeting some other Reatta people - sometimes it feels pretty lonely up here!

  • 3 weeks later...

Here's a shot of four of the five Reattas that were at the show last week. A Maui blue '90(?) showed up later. Our placement was not ideal; my silver '88 was very close to the massive swinging door of a recycling dumpster. A good show, though, and fun.

Let me just start off by saying, what a great event! If this forum is any indicator, the guys at these Buick meets are honest, genuine, great people! More than I can say about quite a few auto clubs I've associated with. And the cars, THE CARS!! So many beautiful Buicks! Awesome turnout on an awesome day! (at least it wasn't this last Sunday with the near-triple digits though ) It was a great pleasure getting to meet all of you! I won't call myself a photog but I did get a few snaps of the day including that maui blue number that showed up. Must say once again though, totally bizarre that both the 95 Riv and 88 Reatta placed third over some of the cars there. We took a lot of time getting em shiny and good to go and I suppose it paid off, even though we insist ours was in the worst shape there by far :P

And the show from my perspective with the Riv...

Following making good friends with the fellow next to me with the lowered 70 Riv, also the previous owner of the 91 white Reatta there on the end, he said he had another 91 he was lookin to sell. It was the maroon coupe that took 2nd at the meetup last year I guess? Anyhow, we went and met up with him after the show and well...now we've got a 91 as well!

The results were announced after the show at the awards ceremony. They are not published in it's entirety anywhere. If you want, I can send you an email copy of the Chapter newsletter which depicts the class winners and special class winners, but no 2nd or 3rd place winners. Just PM me with your email address if you would like that. It will come in 2 emails, 7 pages each. Greg
