An interesting dilemma. A rare interesting car with a cult following but one which would probably call for 2-3 donor cars to make whole and a person could easily drop $50,000 + into it's restoration. The cult following is the issue, as it actually lessens the "demand" for the car. At most, I suppose it's a $40,000 car correctly restored. That said, as we all know it's not about making money, it's about owning cars we love to own and enjoy. Therefore, hopefully this will go to someone like Ted, who has the resources to do the restoration. At 48 years old, this car needs to be restored now, or else it may not pop up for awhile -then be even harder to resurrect. Like I said, an interesting dilemma.

I saw that listing--wow, incredibly rare and probably worth the price, but from experience I can say that it will take many years to restore that car. It's certainly worth restoring, though. My '63 was in many ways rustier than that one when I found it six years ago, but it was also complete and still ran and drove. I hope to have it done in time for the Springfield, Mo. national meet two summers from now.

Greg I agree that's the route. Some pundits would say a complete rebody is blasthemy, illegal. There have been discussions on V8 Buick.com regarding same as rare "1 of" GS Skylarks pop up in horrible condition and someone opines "just rebody it". I personally don't see an issue with it, if overall the integrity is to restore the 4 speed car. The other option is to cut floor pans etc from the donor car rather then take whole, so not sure where the grey is. It posted mostly because we as a Buick community generally believe 99.9% of these "holy grail" cars are gone baby gone, n'er to return. Now, here I am in central Iowa and this one is within 150 miles of me! They are still out there and will pop up from time to time over the next several years. Fascinating. Wonder when the next one will surface?

rebody, repanel, refloor, what ever they complain about

they said the same for my car

i sold the 4spd set up to pay for the rebody of my car

i had it sence i was 17 bought it in high school

now i want to drive it again

i can never drive stick again

so now its an automatic

its my car

i don't care what other people say

mine is mine

things cost money

will it ever be worth what other are?

i don't care

it mine

rebody is still using your car as the actual car

just using all the panels to rebuild it
