Rear badge, below the taillight...........

Recommended Posts

What does it take to replace the rear badge?

Seems to be in a hard to reach place, but I really have not checked out.

Time to replace it before I get this car on the road in a few weeks.

Thank you.

Benefits of AACA Membership.

Tom,

It is held on with three speed nuts (push on type) that will need to be split for removal. New ones will need to be used to reinstall. The emblem has three long studs on the back, but it is very difficult to access without removing at least the rear bumper, and still difficult unless you also pull the rear filler panel so removal can be done off-car.

Thanks.

The good thing is that I do not need to save the original badge.

I think this would be a good job for a body shop.

Interesting. Thanks for your input.

If I get a chance I am going to check that out. Looks like it might be a real hassle.

Tom,

Steve may have something there. Now that he mentions it, I think the rear emblem uses self-tapping nuts, not speed nuts (push-fits) so can be backed off and reused. In any case, it is still not easy to get to. It has been a while since I did this, and was probably thinking of the emblems on the doors which do use speed nuts and cannot be removed and reused intact (usually). Thought I would offer that clarification/correction.

10mm self tapping nuts. Hard to reach. Mine was good except the black paint. Cleaned it up and repainted with Eastwood under hood black. Didn't mask it. Removed overspray withe razor blade. Final coat with Eastwood Diamond Clear. Good as new.
