Guest BretK Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I am already confused. The fronts are 475/500 -19 and the rears are 500/550 -19. What is correct when ordering new tires from Coker tire? What brands are ok and what need to be avoided? obviously there is a huge price range. Also which tubes straight or offset do I want. And lastly were they originally whitewall or black wall?thanks! Bret
Guest 1930 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 No whitewall tires originally, Victory could be had with at least two different tire variations depending on model designation. Of course all 4 would have matched originally. It was a ground clearance thing. I cannot remember the specifics but can look that info up later if no-one else chimes in
Guest BretK Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Jason,3 of the 5 tires including the spare are 500-19. What do you think of these two? Anyone else have any experience with either?
ply33 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Don't know enough about your car to give you an answer, but on the tubes "offset" means that the valve stem comes out at an angle versus "straight" where the valve stem comes out pointing directly to the center of the wheel hub. If you look at your wheels you'll be able to tell which you need. On Plymouth it seems that the wheels that use offset valve stems on tubes came into use around 1934. Based on that I suspect that you'd need non-offset valve stems but don't really know.My last couple of sets of tires are from a different vendor and are a different size so I can't comment on the quality or pricing for the tires you posted.I have had issue with modern bias ply tires made for collector cars wearing out much faster than I'd like. Something like 10,000 miles and that is with rotating them every 2,000 miles. I see that Coker now carries radial tires in vintage sizes. Not cheap, but if you are planning on driving the car they might pay off in better tread life. Or maybe not.
Guest 1930 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Hello Brett, just as a point of reference than your car would most likely be designated the 130 series with 19 inch rims, 131 series would have used a 21 inch and this was necessitated from poor road conditions and the need for extra ground clearance. I run 4.75/5.00 on my DA ( same size rim ) but they are not new tires so cannot comment on the versions you have shown. Yours have no offset but are straight up and out.You have a beautiful car, I hope you plan to keep it, maintain its original state and have fun with it. Driving an original car can be the most fun you will ever have.
