Guest Virus
Gentlemen and Ladies,I am the proud owner of a 62 Le Sabre that I'm trying to restore on my own. The first thing I'm trying to do is fix the leak at the front of the transmission. Is there a way to fix this without pulling the motor/transmission? Is there a thread here already that I some how missed? My only guess is that it is the front seal leaking. Thank you in advance for any help you can give. Pete Phillips
To replace the seal you have to remove either the engine or transmission. YOu can try a can of B-12 ChemTool in the transmission fluid, drive it for a while, and see if that will soften up the seal, but it doesn't always work. I tried it on a '64 recently that I have, and it did not work.Pete Phillips, BCA #7338

Ben Bruce aka First Born
Welcome to our little world, Virus. How bad is the leak? Where are you located? Ben
Guest Virus
I go through about 2 quarts of tranny fluid per tank of gas. I'm located in Ft. Knox, KY.
JohnD1956
May we presume you have already wiped the transmission cooler lines dry and verified that they are not the cause of the leak?
Guest Virus
You would presume correctly, sir. I've also noted the fact that it sprays from the torque converter when it's running.
JohnD1956
Good. The next thing I would check is the torque converter drain bolts, if it has them. By 62 maybe they were eliminated? I know my 56 has two, directly opposite one another on the face of the converter. There is also a ring of bolts holding the converter together and I would check each of them, if you have them as well. Chances are this is not the culprit but just in case, I would check em anyway. Guest Virus
Does pouring fluid into the trans also fill the torque converter?
