Does anyone know if the straight 8 Buick engines are interchangeable? I have a 1931 Buick but can get a hold of a 1937 rebuilt block and was wondering if it will fit?

Engine mounts are different. I believe the transmission mount to the bell housing would also be different. If you use the 37 engine, bellhousing and transmission, The driveshaft length will be different.

Phillip,

The first question -just how bad is the existing engine? Might be easier to fix or look hard for the proper replacement, unless you want a bit more engine HP. And you will probably not gain much performance for the car even with a bigger engine displacement, in my opinion.

I guess I'll stick with the original. Seems a lot of trouble swapping out for the 37'. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I think I either have a blown head gasket or cracked head or block. I guess I'll just pull the heads off and find out what the problem is and fix it!

Does anyone know where I can get a head gasket for a 1931 Buick 344.5 cubic inch engine?
