Guest hoonani Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Does anyone know if the straight 8 Buick engines are interchangeable? I have a 1931 Buick but can get a hold of a 1937 rebuilt block and was wondering if it will fit? Philip H Costa
Bob Engle Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Engine mounts are different. I believe the transmission mount to the bell housing would also be different. If you use the 37 engine, bellhousing and transmission, The driveshaft length will be different.Bob Engle
jscheib Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Phillip,The first question -just how bad is the existing engine? Might be easier to fix or look hard for the proper replacement, unless you want a bit more engine HP. And you will probably not gain much performance for the car even with a bigger engine displacement, in my opinion.John

Guest hoonani Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Thanks for the reply. I think I either have a blown head gasket or cracked head or block. I guess I'll just pull the heads off and find out what the problem is and fix it!Philip H Costa
