Guest spears55 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Will someone help me understand the steps to replace the OIL and GEN lens and the turn signal lenses on my 57 T-Bird? I have the clock out to be rebuilt so thought this would be a good time to change the faded lenses. I have a tool that is supposed to be used to remove the bezels, but have not used it. Many thanks in advance
MCHinson Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 spears55,Welcome to the AACA Discussion Forum. I have moved your question to the appropriate Thunderbird sub-forum. Hopefully you will find an answer here.
1957Birdman Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Hi Spears55,Welcome to the forum. The answer to your question is that to get at the jewels for the turn signals, oil, and generator you need to take out the bezel that holds the gauges in place. It comes off from the back of the instrument panel. It is tough to get at unless you take out the seat and probably the steering column also. You can try it from the front also, but you may not be able to get at the jewels from the front. Unfortunately it isn't a particularly easy job and it is probably better to combine it other repairs that need to be done at the same time. That is what I intend to do.
Guest DonnerVogel567 Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Spears55: Lew is correct ... THE ONLY WAY to replace the instrument jewels is to REMOVE the instrument pod as a unit ... after removing the dash cover. Steering column does not have to be removed, just lowered after removing two screws beneath the collar to dash.Bob HartigMcLean, VA'57D & '57E
