rocketraider
First off, helps greatly if tank is empty or nearly empty. Gasoline weighs about 8 lbs a gallon so the more fuel in the tank, the clumsier it will be to handle. Even empty it's a two-man job. From under car- you will see a pair of straps that hold the tank in. The end nearest the bumper has nuts and bolts. Spray those with penetrating oil a few days before you plan to drop the tank. The end of the straps nearest the axle hook into slots under the trunk floor.Disconnect the rubber fuel lines from the tank sending unit and the vent tubes. Then go in the trunk and disconnect the tan sending unit wire at the rear of the trunk. Push the tan wire and plug thru the grommet in the trunk floor. You'll also see a black ground wire under the car, disconnect that too. You can either unhook it from the sender unit or remove the screw attaching it to the car body.Unbolt the straps at the back and lower the tank evenly until you can unhook the straps at the axle end. At that point you can lower the tank out of the car. You may have to unscrew the nuts and bolts all the way.Not a difficult job, but a clumsy one due to size and shape of the tank and having to maneuver the fill neck past the bumper and rear frame crossmember.
