I didn't pay 44 for mine, I didn't even pay 40, but if you want one and don't want to wait 4 weeks, Parts Geek has 3 SACHS struts in stock at $40.25,

I'm sorry, looks like they don't carry it any more, good news is they now carry trunk struts.

I got mine at a place called Fleet Farm it's a local store with a good selection of gas struts, I carried in the old one and found a compatible compressed length with the same size shaft and moved the screw off shaft cap to the new piston, full extension was about a half inch shorter, I paid around $25 and it was considerably less than the parts geek price at the time.

Larry,

Add 1 spare tire compartment gas strut to my order in Reno. Also add a gas door release lever. Yours are better than the factory ones because they are shorter and will not break.

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Larry!

Did I just see that you carry the baby strut for the spare compartment?

I would love to order one as well. Are you going to Reno next week, also?

If so, it'll be great to meet you! If not, it'll be nice to say hello on the phone!

Tom,

Yes I will be there. We'll have plenty of struts and other items along.

Besides parts available at the meets, we do free adjustments like throttle body cleaning and horn lubrication and distribute materials from prior TC America newsletters I have done articles for. Plus antenna, speedometer, door post, accumulator, and accessory repairs/installation demonstrations for fellow TC America Club members who are registered for the full event. I'm bringing a video from MotorWeek that explains the ABS system that so many of ours cars have issues with if not maintained properly.

See you Sunday!

Wow! This is going to be a great meet, Larry!

I'm looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the gang!

See you in Reno!

Thanks for the tip. I ordered the spare tire trunk strut from www.LIFTSUPPORTSDEPOT.COM and received it within 5 days at a great price. Installed and works perfectly.

I wonder why they sell theirs for over $6 more than ours if they are direct vendors? For the other struts they are almost twice as expensive.

the one you sell Larry is slightly longer than the factory one i removed, and i have 2 of them from cars and both are shorter. buts its installed and works so for the price i think it was a good deal

That's the advantage of having 180 of these cars - they were all hand built so no two are the same and it is easy to pick out the production changes/improvements along the way. The later built TCs used the better working, higher pressure, slightly longer strut which held the hatch open fully and did not need the operator to "pull up" on it to open. Similar changes were made to the hood, trunk and tonneau.
