'41 Ford wiring problem

My temperature gauge wasn't working on the pick-up. One of the sending units had a cracked electrical connection, so I replaced it, but the needle didn't move off of cold. Replaced the other and it did the same thing.

Hooked up the left bank only and got a reading of just under a quarter on the scale. Hooked up just the right sensor and the gauge reads about five-eights. Since there are two thermostats I suppose there could be that much temperature difference, but how do you explain the needle burying itself all the way to the cold side with both hooked up?

Also, There are two oil pressure sending units available, one an 80 pound and one a 50. My gauge is a 50 pound. Would an 80 pound sending unit bury the needle of a 50 pound gauge?

The unit with one terminal is the coolant sending unit and the two-terminal unit is an on/off, NC switch that opens at high temperature (206 F).

Hope the diagram and info prove useful. Can't see how two sending units in parallel on one meter could ever be accurate since the resistance is halved.
