Guest REX STALLION
Hello all, My `64 came without a power antenna so I want to put one in.I have the dash plate with the switch (good old E-bay). Do I need a special wiring harness ? Can anyone guide me through this? For some reason, wiring is a black art for me. Thanks, Scott:confused:
Guest Artic64
So do you have a power antenna yet? Take off the dash plate and see if you have a provision for an electric antenna. You would see a loose plug that is not being used. If you see it, then you are basically ready to get your project going. Make sure you find a working antenna. Plenty on ebay lately. I am not sure what you are working with, but adding a power antenna can be a chore. If you don't see a loose plug then you will need to splice in the wiring for the antenna. Others may chime in also. Its been a while since I did mine, but I sure we can get yours working. Hello all, My `64 came without a power antenna so I want to put one in.I have the dash plate with the switch (good old E-bay). RivNut
If you have the OE switch, you'll need a 12V source wire going to it (IGN if you only want it hot when the ignition switch is on) or BAT (hot off the battery 24/7). I'm thinking that 12v wire goes to the middle terminal on the switch. Then you'll need two wires going from the switch to the antenna - one for up (front terminal of the switch) and one for down (rear terminal of the switch.) The antenna will obtain its ground through the body. There's an access panel on the underside of the wheel well that wall allow you access to the entire antenna assembly with the removal of one nut. Easy enough if you remove the right front tire. The trick will be snaking the lead wires from the switch through the firewall then to the antenna.
