Guest breather
After changing many items on my 1990 Reatta to try to get it to start, I finally gave in and agreed it was the VATS system. I did the resistor equivalent to the chip on the key and connected it to the white wires down the column, under the dash. NO WORKEE!I then carefully knocked the chip out of my ignition key, soldered a wire to each side of the chip, applied some heat shrink tape to it, and connected that to the same place I connected the resistors. It has been two weeks now and my Reatta has started every time I tried.
Guest Mc_Reatta
I applaud your good eyesight and steady hand on being able to work with the chip from your key. Can I send you some SM PCBs for you to work on? :cool:Must have gotten a resistor that wasn't quite the proper match for the one in your key. harry yarnell
...or you connected the resistor to the wrong white wires. Easy to do. When you cut the two white wires, you now have FOUR white wires; two go to the column connector; two to the key tumbler. Make sure the resistor goes toward the connector, not the tumbler. And make sure you have the right resistor. A 5% differential is the limit.
