Guest Shoe1932 Posted April 16, 2013 Share Posted April 16, 2013 Howdy from TexasI have a 1932 - 67 and am missing one of the small corner protectors for the back side of the hood. Wouldn't hurt my feelings to get one or two so I can keep from possibly scratching something. Any ideas or does anyone have a stash of them collecting dust that they might want to send my way. I am willing to pay pennies on the $. Let me know. Thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Guest Grant Magrath Posted April 16, 2013 Share Posted April 16, 2013 We made some for our 35 Dodge back in the days before the internet by laminating bits of rubber, FWIW. Life is soooo much easier these days, but the skill level of the average restorer is decreasing as a result in my opinion.CheersGrant Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Shoe1932 Posted April 24, 2013 Share Posted April 24, 2013 Are the hood protectors only on the front or is there something for the backside of the hood? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
michaelod Posted April 24, 2013 Share Posted April 24, 2013 (edited) Shoe,Seems that on most cars where these would be used the hood opens on the side and thus they would be the same on all four corners. They slip over the corner, covering both the inside and outside of that area as I am sure you are aware. I am not sure why yours would be different from front to back?Thanks, Edited April 24, 2013 by michaelod (see edit history) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Texas Old Car Guy Posted April 27, 2013 Share Posted April 27, 2013 Shoe:Howdy from just up the road in Georgetown! Why not get these from Bratton's Antique Auto (they are made for a Model A Ford but should work on your Buick and best of all, they are very inexpensive):
<TBODY>
Two black leather triangular shape pads with 9/64 x 5/16 tubular rivets. You can order two sets and put them on the front corners as well if you want.

</PRE>

<FORM method=get name=speedorder action=basket.asp>
<TBODY>
<INPUT value=1 type=hidden name=numLineCount> <INPUT value=speedorder type=hidden name=V_ID> <INPUT value=product.asp::_ID=2048|||PT_ID=all|||numPageStartPosition=31 type=hidden name=strReturnURL> Part #22220 <SELECT size=1 name=V1><OPTION selected value=2048>HOOD CORNER PADS $ 3.50</OPTION></SELECT> <INPUT class=textboxsmall size=3 name=Q1>
</TBODY>
</FORM>Here's the link to them in Bratton's catalog: http://www.brattons.com/product.asp?P_ID=2048&strPageHistory=search&strKeywords=hood&numPageStartPosition=31&strSearchCriteria=any&PT_ID=allGood luck,Fred
</TBODY>
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Bob Engle Posted April 27, 2013 Share Posted April 27, 2013 I searched my file of 32 Buick photos. I found a number of pictures of high end restorations that have the rubber corner protector only on the front of the hood. I would follow this if you want a correct car. I also think the car looks better with only the front protectors as it is hidden down along the fender, while the rear is out in the open and would detract from the appearance of the car. The protector will prevent accidental contact with the fender when opening and closing. Mac Blair and Bob's have the corner protectors as well as Restoration Specialties and Supply Inc.Bob Engle Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Shoe1932 Posted April 29, 2013 Share Posted April 29, 2013 Bob, You are correct. I do only have them on the front. The back corners are dinged (paint) up a little and I remember seeing some corner protectors on the front and rear on a few cars at a show some years ago. I thought that maybe I was missing them. I guess that over the last 30+ years we have had the car, the hood and the side mount bracket have touched a few times. I am always very careful but I am sure I have been responsible for a few of them. The corner protectors on the front are in good shape so thanks for the info but I guess I will hold off on purchasing some. Thanks again for the help.
