I went over to Shamrock Auto (see post # 28 from May 16 2013) to get a shot of a copper colored 1977-78 Eldo Coupe but it was gone. The copper color can be striking if done up right. I had seen the Eldo there before. Saw that they had pulled it out and had the hood open. Went back and it was gone. But Surprise! The early 1960s Lincoln 4 door sedan was back. Also the green 1967 Chevrolet Impala that was there in the photo is now gone too. A 1975-76 Buick Electra 225 can also be seen.

Another 1972 Cadillac Eldorado on Pulaski Road, Calumet City, Illinois. Just need one more 1971-72 Eldo, this Eldo, the Eldo in post # 27, and $40,000, and we might end up with one good Eldorado.

1914 LaFrance Fire Truck seen at the Calumet City Fire Station No.1 on Friday, July 5, 2013. Calumet City Fire Dept purchased this unit new in 1914; it was the CCFD's first powered unit. The truck was retired many years ago and it was purchased by private collectors. Several years ago a Calumet City firefighter was able to track it down and re-acquire it. The truck runs and the Dept is currently restoring the historic engine.

I spied this lovely Porsche on my street just a bit ago, a quite lovely blonde/white haired lady in her 50's stepped out and visited with neighbors for a while. I heard that familiar air cooled engine start up and peeked out in time to see her driving away. These are popular cars in my area.

1973 Buick Riviera near Shirley Street, Calumet City, Illinois. This guy has had this car for a long time. I haven't seen it around in quite a few years. Glad to see it is still around.

This 1970s Mopar beast looks as if it is ready for a Mad Max movie. This car was displayed at the local cruise night recently. At 156th Street and Wentworth Avenue, Calumet City, Illinois.

The owner of Bob's Body Shop owns this very nice 1938 LaSalle Convertible Sedan. I always liked this car. There is often something interesting going on at the antique car-friendly Bob's Body Shop.

Technically not "parked," but rather, rolling along on the roadways, surrounded by "mundane" modern traffic...

I had a couple of interesting sightings lately (& had my compact "travel camera" handy), including a '60s Impala Convertible (with CT antique plate) getting onto the Merritt Parkway northbound in Stratford, CT, eventually crossing the Housatonic River Bridge, and exiting onto the "Milford Connector." The date was Monday, July 29th, and it was early evening, as I think is evidenced by some headlights on in one of the views:

Then the following morning (Tuesday 7/30/2013) in commuter traffic on I-95 southbound in East Haven, CT, an Acura NSX with, I think, RI plates (my flash was unintentionally on and tendted to wash out the reflective plate):

I found these over the past week or so, the 190SL on the trailer is technically "parked" right? The MG owner has apparently resigned himself to British Car Ownership and knows to carry a full garage's worth of tools in the back. The International Harvester Travelall in the last photos was even more beautiful in person but I have a kind of love/hate with perfectly restored old trucks, I feel they will never again be used as intended.

Here's a cool '70s Eldorado Convertible from New Jersey that was spotted in traffic on Interstate 95 northbound, this past Friday afternoon, August 2, 2013. My photo series starts around West Haven, and finishes at Long Wharf in New Haven, CT, where you can see some of the ongoing work scene with revising the intersection of Interstates 95 and 91, which is also associated with work on the new I-95 bridge crossing the Quinnipiac River, known as the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge.

One parked and one idling (close enough?) As usual both cars were shot in my neighborhood, but this time within a block. I still can't get over how many great cars I see daily that I don't even get a chance to snap a pic of because they are driving. Portland really is a car crazy town.

Inspired by Stock Steve's Eldo in Motion posted above here is my contribution: 1968 Cadillac Coupe DeVille in motion on Burnahm Avenue, Calumet City, Illinois.

Cool shots! That's a very handsome era for Cadillacs. Good quick-on-the-draw with your camera, Pomeroy!

The real question, though, is whether you are driving something nearly as cool as my hi-miles '92 Ford Taurus while you're taking the pictures! Ha!

I actually saw another '70s Eldo convertible get onto the highway ahead of me more recently (this one was black with a black convertible top--it looked SWEET--looked to have Connecticut antique plates on it also...), but I knew that the Taurus would either shake itself apart, or explode, if I attempted speeding up to try to catch the Eldo, so I had to keep my appreciation of it to myself!

Good sighting, Marrs! I don't know Porsches that well, but I am pretty sure that double-grille engine lid is something more special than your "garden variety" 356...

This early Ford Thunderbird is being worked on at Blair's Automotive on Burnham Avenue, Calumet City, Illinois. My wife loves them. Me, not so much. I can think of dozens of other cars I would buy first.

And a few weeks later, another vintage Ford Thunderbird being worked on at Blair's Automotive, Burnham Avenue, Calumet City, Illinois. Blair's have been doing a lot of antique car work as of late.

It seems you are correct! I don't know them very well either having only owned modern Porsches, but I saw the "C" designation marked on the back of that red car and Wikipedia states this about the C variant:

"The last revision of the 356 was the 356C introduced for the 1964 model year. It featured disc brakes all round, as well as an option for the most powerful pushrod engine Porsche had ever produced, the 95 hp (71 kW) "SC". 356 production peaked at 14,151 cars in 1964, the year that its successor, the new 911, was introduced to the US market (it was introduced slightly earlier in Europe). The company continued to sell the 356C in North America through 1965 as demand for the model remained quite strong in the early days of the heavier and more "civilized" 911. The last ten 356's (cabriolets) were assembled for the Dutch police force in March 1966 as 1965 models."

An Old Buick finds a new home. I hope that this one does not end up Chopped, Shaved and Slammed. It is off the trailer now and sitting in the street presently. On Freeland Avenue, Calumet City, IL.

This poor VW Type 181 "Thing" looks to have been sitting for QUITE some time, in a driveway in Branford, CT. I took this picture earlier this year, on Monday evening,May 13th, 2013:

post-34222-143142163669_thumb.jpg

Believe that Things were only sold in the U.S. during the 1973 and 1974 model years, so presumably this is one of those two years. If I had a view of the rear fenders, and could look for those added-on air intake "boxes" ('74s had them--'73s did not), I could probably narrow it down.
