I believe this is a 1961 - 1962 Chevrolet Impala emblem 4729470...I thought the Impala was broken out of the center, but on the back this one is cast with "WITHOUT IMPALA" were these emblems used on the Bel Air or Biscayne? Thanks....

I forgot to mention that the part number is 4722651. I have since learned that part number 4722651 has been superseded by part number 3760009 and that part number 3760009 is for an Impala.

Ok, here are the parts catalog listings for this part.

This one shows that part number 4722651 has been superseded by part number 3760009. Go to the bottom of page under 12.114 Emblem, Rear Fender

GMPartsWiki - Parts Catalogue No. 651

This page shows that part number 3760009 is for an Impala.<!-- google_ad_section_end --> Look at Item 23 under Impala.

I would be curious why is was superceded. I don't know much at all about those years, but my first thought was that it could have been the 348 crossed flags used on 61...on/near the trunk and maybe? on the hood.

I'd try the 348/409 website, but I don't have the url, as i have never viewed it. A lot of people say it's good for that age of part ID.

My thought on this is that part number 3760009 is the one with the Impala. Chevrolet probably didn't want to stock two different emblems.

Here is that 348/409 website that F&J talked about.

GM, I know from experience, sometimes used overstocked items, albeit modified or adorned, on newer cars. I recall a part for a 64 pickup being composed of two pieces. One was from a 1949 parts list! The other was from a current list. The two together comprised the part, but, for the life of me I cannot recall what it was. Horn button or something like that.
