2013 GREAT RACE SUPPORT DRIVER NEEDED!

St. Paul, MN to Mobile, AL

June 20 – 30, 2013

Our support driver will be unable to make this years Great Race, and we need your help!

Are you looking for the ultimate “car guy” vacation? Is the Great Race on your bucket list? Here is your opportunity to be part of the 2013 Great Race!

We are Pat n’ Pat Brothers, are long-time Great Racers, and Oregon Region BCA Members. We are a husband/wife rally and are looking for someone to drive our Ford F-250 and 24’ Trailer on this year’s Great Race.

We compete in our 1931 Buick 60 Racer and head up the “VCRA Race for Autism”, the official charity of the Great Race. In 2012 we finished 3rd (of over 50) in Sportsman Class.

What does it take?

You will need to be in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area by June 20th to attend pre-Race meetings and join us in the fun. Each day you will drive our truck/trailer from our start location to our evening hotel and then join us for our evening’s Great Race Dinner and festivities. We will pay the gas expense for our truck and trailer.

Your Breakfast is furnished by your hotel and Dinners are included as part of the Great Race. You will be responsible for your transportation to/from the Great Race (you may put your car in our trailer), Lunch, incidentals, and your Great Race Hotel expense.

Mechanical expertise not required, but would be appreciated.

A sense of Humor is Mandatory!

If you are interested, post here or PM us and tell us why we should pick you!

Hi Pat,

Having been a touring musician for twenty years, I am quite experienced in driving long distances. I personally drove about 75,000 miles a year for many of those years. I recently started my own car restoration business, so I can pretty much come and go as I please. This would also get me a resume piece and most likely be tax deductible as a bonus. I can help with repairs, although my knowledge base is generally post war cars.

I'm 45 without a bum knee (sorry DD ;) ), strong as a mule and willing to learn and follow directions (both driving and bossiness).

My son will be out of fourth grade at that point, and my wife (who can take him to whatever summer camp necessary) encouraged me to respond and let you know I have always wanted to be a participant in one way or the other in The Great Race.

My sense of humor (humour for my Canuck brethren) can be vouched for by many of the folks on this forum, although admittedly, it can veer to the blue side on occasion.

Therefore, I would like to officially throw my trucker's cap into the ring.

Hey Pat n Pat, two great candidates there. I would also like to participate some day, the Great Race was here in Flint in the '90s. The Sloan Museum had a Chevy in a couple of them and I was very good friends with the mechanic that went with them. I have driven all over with a GMC 2500 HD and a 28' trailer and my race car and show car. Flint to KY, MD, NY, TN, IN, and probably more. I helped put a '31 Buick Body back on it's frame as well as my '70 GSX. Keep me in mind if the dude from TX can't do it!

Funny, they once told me I was funnier than a comedian at a comedy club! LOL!

Dave:

Which knee is bum? Our truck is an automatic ;)

We have had a great response. Looks like the Great Race is on a lot of bucket lists. We are still talking to folks, so keep the cards and letters coming!

Left Knee, I have some Dr.appointments and some other stuff to go though. They say I have some Torn Ligiments and other dammage. Don't know how it is going to end yet. Sounds like buick 5563 can really use the feathers in his cap. My headdress is already over flowing. ;) See how it works out. Dandy Dave!

My first thought when I saw First Born's name was "Oh great, a retired OTR trucker wants the gig. I can't compete!" ;)

I talked with Pat and his wife last night. Good peeps. It looks like they may have found someone who lives closer to them, but they kindly offered to find me a team if I was seriously interested. (I hope that it is Ok that I said that) I know that Uncle Bob has done the Great Race numerous times, and he made it sound like a fantastic experience to be involved in any way.

As they say, "I'm just happy to be considered".

Good luck Pat!

Mike, I am sorry you did not get this gig. Having known you personally for a while, I know you would have had a great time and fit in well with the others. You would have made their trip more entertaining as well. Anyone thinking about taking Mike on a road trip should not hesitate about it.

Driving up I-24 though Tennessee today through the highways cut through stone and the Redbuds and Dogwoods in full bloom heading to Kansas City to pick up another '54, white line fever came on strong and I called Mike to offer to be copilot for him on the trip and share hotel expenses. With over 100,000 miles hauling 54 Buicks home to Georgia from places like Paradise Ca, North Dakota, Kansas x3, New York/New Jersey x2, Boston, Alabama x3 and Texas more times than I can remember plus all the trips Robert E, the Landau and I have taken over the last 3-4 year I figured Mike could handle the humor and I could handle the driving. Called the warden to get her OK, signed in to the internet from a cheap hotel room out of Nashville and read this....the job is already taken. Oh well, maybe another time Mikey.

Hold on everyone!!!!! We have a great local candidate, but nothing is confirmed yet! He has been out of town and we can't have a serious talk until tomorrow. Since he was first to call us, we need to give him first option.

Uncle Bob (progoofoff): Pat the Girl says you need to stop diluting our resource pool or she will tell all about your rally/smoking philosophy. Are you coming on the Race this year? Missed you last year.

Mr. Earl......there may be hope yet! We will let ya all know soon.

We would take you all along if we had room!

Mike:

Just talked with the local guy, and his schedule just will not work. I left a message on your phone. The Job is yours if you still want it.........with or without Mr. Earl. You will have far more fun with us instead of volunteering; volunteering is way too much work ;)

She Pat doesn`t need to tell everything she knows. That is my secret weapon for winning.

I`ve gotten too old to make the Race again.

I think having a comedy team of Mike & Mr. Earl would be a kick!

Now I am envious....; maybe next time...

We need post updates from the road posted here on the forum and there needs to be some video of the hi-jinx posted too, so we can all participate in the fun!!
