R Walling
I have long heard of "secret" locations of VIN's that State police use in determining the idenity of a motor vechicle. Is there a list by manufacturere's names of where the VIN is stamped on the frame in numerious places? I have been told that Caddilac had once stamped the VIN on the inside of the frame backwards so that it could be read using a mirror.
Dave Henderson
MoToR ("the automotive business paper"), in the '20's. published a book of specifications for 1913-1922 cars, including the serial number ranges and locations thereof. I will be glad to help on any specific models that are listed, and yes, some are in more than one place.
TG57Roadmaster
Any old NADA or Red Book (Nat'l. Used Car Market Reports) has the location(s) of Serial and Motor Numbers for every vehicle in that issue, usually 6-7 years' worth. Those guides make finding VIN locations no secret. As for the Cadillac frame number in reverse thing, maybe the person who told you about it spent too much time spinning Beatles albums in reverse, listening for secret messages. :confused:TG
