Up for sale is a very special piece I have had squirreled away for 20 years.More photos by email,just ask. I have found no makers names on it. I was planning on building a circa 1904 racer car and using this trans. As you know early trans are virtually impossible to find,especially 2 speed forward one reverse progressive sliding gear ones like this. This is not a planetary trans. Removed years ago from a running 1906 Model N Ford with a 15 HP engine,that somehow swapped this trans for its original planetary one. Thus this trans can handle a 2 or 4 cylinder motor of the 8 to 20 HP size. Appears complete with its cone clutch assembly. The gears all in all look great. There is some wear on the center gear cluster edges,as this is the one that engages and disengages first ,second,and reverse. The wear shows it was used and works though. It appears the shifter assembly is for neutral,first,second,and reverse,and the pedal assembly is to engage and disengage the cone clutch. However I may have it backwards.Comes with the mounting brackets and an unusual U joint for the rear trans output shaft. The trans case itself is 14 inches long and 8 inches wide. The rear output shaft is 1 1/2 inches in diameter. However with the U joint a smaller square shaft for the drive shaft can be fitted inside the output shaft. The center of the mounting ear hole across the side of the trans to the opposite mounting ear hole center is 10 inches. The center hole of the mounting ear back to the center hole of the mounting bracket on the same side of the trans ,ie front to back,is 6 1/2 inches. The cone clutch assembly has an outside diameter of 8 1/2 inches. The trans by itself weighs 80 lbs. The remaining brackets weigh an additional 20 lbs. The assembly is all in all beautiful all over. I have never seen a loose early sliding gear trans from the 1900-1910 period for sale.
