Need Help With Fuel Pump

Does any one have a clue as to the application of this early 30's Stewart Warner fuel pump?

Any ideas? This fuel pump actually powered a 35 Auburn, but is not correct for 34-36 Auburn.

Is the correct pump for an Auburn an AC brand pump? If so maybe Stewart Warner made this pump as a replacement pump like other companies, Airtex for one, to get in on the parts supply business. Just a guess. Does it have a number stamped in it anywheres?

You pose good questions. Stewart Warner pumps were used on Auburns 1934 eight cylinder Type 706D and six cylinder type 708D. In mid 1934 AC sued SW for a patent infringement and won. Auburn continued to use the SW pumps until mid 1935 until the stock was depleted. They then switched to AC pumps and continued with them to the end. The model number is 403-L There appears to be a date code of A 4 . PAT'D RE 18112 1,597,690.

I checked my 53 AC book and an 851/853 Used a 2146 pump which wasn't used on anything else truck industrial or automotive. If the pump is off a 635 or 654 it is an 1814 style pump which was used also used on a 1935 Stewart 41H, 46H, 47H, 48H, 49H and 1936-1938 Indiana With Waukesha engine. That may be what the Stewart warner pump was from. Just a guess. Ironically my book doesn't list a 34 Auburn but it did list 1931 and earlier. Did Auburn use Stewart warner pumps from 1932- 1934?

The six cylinder FP's are a different animal. They do not have an arm, but a push rod actuator. I once had a 32 12 cylinder Auburn FP, it was an AC, although I believe the originals were SW as well as the eights. Unfortunately, I have little knowledge of the early cars. The 851 852 8 cylinder supercharged FP's should have a different AC number, as the base is drilled differently. Auburnseeker, stop by my booth at Hershey C3F34,35. We can chat about Auburns.
