Turn signal on a 1932

Hello all

I will soon be adding turn signals to our '32. I do not want to add the large after market turn signal switch which mounts on the steering column. My plan is to add a small toggle switch to the lower section of the dash (on the left) which will look and be mounted in a similar fashion to the dash light switch on the right side of the steering column. My goal is to make it as invisible as possible. I plan on using a thermal flasher with 3 terminals. I am considering using a small light on the back side of the dash next to thenew switch as an indicator that one of the signals is on (hence the third terminal) That way a small bit of light will light up near my left leg when either of the signals is on. This will help remind me (along with the thermal clicking noise) that the blinker is on (incase I forget to turn it off).

I feel that the car is set up well for turn signals as it is. First, there is a running light on each front fender which are currently running lights. I feel they could be used as the front signals. Second, the rear lights have two lights each. The upper one (smaller one) is red and is the running light. The lower one (bigger) is amber and is the brake light.

My dilema on the rear lights is whether to make the amber brake light into the turn signal and then make the red running light into the brake light or just keep the brakes as is and work off the running light circuit. Also, do you guys feel that the fender lights on the front will be sufficient?

On a separate note, is there a wireless system which I could add and just add some LED lights in the back window and magnetically mount some lights to the front bumper.

i welcome all ideas and advice. Thanks

Shoe,

I have given this a considerable amount of thought and like you I did not like the large signal lever on the steering column. I have purchased a kit at Logo Lites Model A Ford LED Turn Signals and will be going with their switch located at the bottom of my dash. I will create my own mounting bracket and it will be held in place using rare earth magnets, thus eliminating the need to drill any permanent mounting holes for the device. In addition as luck would have it their led signal lights are the exact perfect size to fit between the bumper bars on the 1930 Buick 2-bar bumpers and can be attached directly to the bumper mounts, making for an effortless installation. On their website there is a photo gallery that includes a 1931 Buick with a single-bar bumper someone has previously installed these turn signals on. As I am in the process of restoring my car, I also purchased a new wiring harness that was customized by the vendor to add all the wiring and a six volt flasher that would be necessary for turn signals, so I expect to have a very neat/clean installation.

Thanks,

I modified my 48 Lincoln to have turn signals while still using the same single bulb tail lights and front parking lights. The kit was 55 bucks from one of the members of the Lincoln car club, he also had the schamatics so you could build your own. I will have to look through my old Lincoln books, I did this over ten years ago and they still work perfect and the only way you can tell is if you crawl under the car to see a few extra wires.

Check on the Lincoln link here on the aaca site, Im sure someone has them. my info is buried in the back shed.
