Too many #'s in the dash plate.....it's only supposed to be six (6) figures long.........the serial #'s on series 70's range from 165801 to 272870.....translate the letters reading 1 to 0........... WPCHRYSLED.......W is 1 and D is 0.

HARRY, I AM IN BUFORD. THE FEDCO PLATE IS YYY642PPP. THE TITLE NUMBER AS IT WAS TITLED IN CALIFORNIA WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR IS 186303. I AGREE THE FEDCO PLATE HAS TOO MANY NUMBERS, THERE FOR MY QUESTION. SINCE YOU ARE IN ATLANTA, DO YOU KNOW A MECHANIC IN CASE I NEED ONE. MY ONLY PROBLEM AT THE MOMENT IS THE GORN NEEDS TO BE WIRED FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO REMOVE THE HORN BUTTON TO GET TO THE BACK OF IT TO WIRE IT. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED. STEVE BUFORD GA 561 281 3502 CELL #

I AGREE, THEREFORE MY QUESTION. I AM IN BUFORD GA AND AM ALSO LOOKING FOR A MECHANIC OR SOMEONE THAT CAN TELL ME HOW TO REMOVE THE HORN BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL AS THERE ARE NO WIRES COMING DOWN INSIDE THE STEERING COLUMN TO HOOK UP THE HORN. 1927 MODEL 70 CHRYSLER.

On my old 29 and 30 Mopars, you need to loosen the cross-through screws on the 2 levers at the bottom of the steering box, then slide the levers off the thin shaft.

Once the levers are off the end, you will be able to pull up on the entire horn ass'y with handles attached. Then there were screws from under those levers to take the button apart. There could be old sticky grease on that long inner thin shaft, so it may be a bit stiff, trying to pull it up enough to get at the screws.

Those old potmetal switch lever handles can break pretty easily, so be careful about prying with any kind of a tool.

post-34731-143141818989_thumb.jpgSteve, first let me correct what I posted. You don't have enough numbers. Each set of three letters represents one digit. The FEDCO plates are sometimes difficult to read................check the left hand side where the Chrysler logo is (hard to see on mine) and see if there is another three letters.
