1935EB
Guy's,I am looking to put new tires on my 1933 Plymouth that is being painted as we speak. This car is a PD model and uses wire wheels with a 525/550- 17 tire with center valve stem.Fords use this tire with an offset valve stem so there are plenty of nice tires. The problem is the inner tube. Coker and Universal do not carry an inner tube for this tire with a center valve stem.I have read somewhere on this forum that I could use a smaller diameter 16 inch inner tube but should not use an 18 inch as folding could occur causing a blow out.How close to the 525/550 do I need to be? For example would a 600-16 inner tube work well?Any help will be appreciated.Chris
ply33
I was not aware that a 600-16 tube was available with a center valve stem. I suspect that might work if it is available.I ended up using motorcycle tubes. The stem diameter is smaller than the hole in the rim but a couple of washers took care of that. I am at work so I can't reference my notes, I know the tubes I used were radial rated 17" diameter but they had some metric cross section number that I don't remember, other than the range of cross sections they were supposed to cover when translated to inches covered 5.25 inches. Got them at a local motorcycle store. But I ran them out of stock, I guess that size is not super common on motorcycles either, so you might want to call your local store first.
