Guest BigDogDaddy
Today's date is 3/22. So today we commemorate the first Buick V-8, the 322 Nailhead. It was definitely one of Buick's better ideas. It was all new, yet maintained Buick's tradition of a smooth running engine with plenty of low end torque. It put Buick ahead of most of the competition, many of whom were still running straight eights and sixes, without overhead valves and with six volts. Some of you may remember that I posted a Happy Nailhead Day last year. And I will continue to post it every year until it becomes a genuine holiday, if not a full national holiday.
Fr. Buick
Hurray!! I've been driving nailheads since high school, love 'em! It would be hard to do this for the 264, but come April we can celebrate the 425...

It would be hard to do this for the 264, but come April we can celebrate the 425...Just checked my 1954 (a non-leap year) BCA calendar. Flint celebrated the Birthday for the '264' on 2-64, better known as April 5th. Al MalachowskiBCA #8965"500 Miles West of Flint""He who laughs last, probably didn't get it." 60FlatTop
I bought my first one in May 1966. It was a 401 in a black 1960 Invicta 4dr ht. I got in right toward the end of production. Funny thing, I have pretty much always owned a nailhead, but I haven't owned many.In my garage 4-01-13 will be 11 years and 4-25-13 will be 35 years. 3-8-13 was 2 years with all the excitement of Y2K, another non-event.BernieBernie Edited March 22, 2013 by 60FlatTop (see edit history)
