padgett
Have been wanting a lift for years but the logistics were just not there. Do not have the structure for a two post. Most common action involves removing wheels and tires so four post is out. Not enough ceiling height for and over and under.Have 7 vehicles under roof in a typical neighborhood with a HOA so pushing things anyway. So it needed to be a scissors lift. Are quite a few around for decent prices except for one thing: nearly all are 6,000 lbs max and my RV is 6300 lbs according to the truck scale. Some even lack a bottom plate and the rollers just roll on the pavement. Not good. Yes, are larger capacity ones but are expensive and big. Thought I had found one in the Atlas Quick Bay but the pads were 33.5" apart and the rails under a Reatta are 31" apart.Friend got a line on a system that has everything needed (including a mobility kit for rolling around the garage) & is now in residence. Hard to think of anything I can't do now. Edited March 9, 2013 by padgett (see edit history)
Guest 89 Maui
Good research and a great find. The lift will give you great access to the underchassis.Congratulations.Woody
Machiner 55
Padgett,Could you provide specifics. Source, price, additional pics? If it would violate forum protocol, just PM me. Thanks.John F.

Ronnie
Nice looking lift Padgett. Sure beats dragging a floor jack around. Is that part of larger plan for post retirement ?
Machiner 55
Sure beats dragging a floor jack around.I know exactly what you mean. I put off doing even minor maintenance things like oil changes sometimes because I just hate dragging the jack and pumping it a dozen times. It'd be nice to just push a button (it does come with a button doesn't it?) and get the car up high enough so that I don't have to roll around on the floor to get stuff done. Would also be great for performing the periodic brake flush.John F.

If cars still had steel bumpers I'd still have an air jack. The world just isn't as simple as it once was.
Machiner 55
... but I hate getting on my hands and knees to get the jack positioned correctly under the car.Yah... that's the other part. Because my floor jack doesn't quite fit under the car, I have to use a scissor jack on one side to get the clearance I need so I'm scrambling between the two and... hey... wait a minute... Sounds like a couple of old guys talking here. That can't be right. Can it?!John F.
KDirk
Padgett, Nice find! I'd love to find something like that (at a reasonable price) as between my brother and I, we own 6 vehicles. Counting other cars we are periodically called to work on, probably around a dozen that could benefit from this. Please do fess up with the details, I am curious to know more!KDirk

Blue90
I've been using ramps and a creeper to do things like oil changes and such. This looks like much more fun.
Guest crazytrain2
Is there a Teves 12V Motor w/Hydraulic pump incorporated in there somewhere? lol That really is cool, and most of all SAFE!!
padgett
Well I have lots of jack stands. The center is open. For Reatta have to line up carefully because the platform only overlaps the side "rails" by about 1/2", is a bit over 30" clearance between the platforms. Just looked at the tank and is about 38" wide (frame rails flare there) so would take some enginuity. Think I would raise the end platforms & put a ten foot length of 2x14 (have some) on each platform, then raise by tires. This should give about 10" of vertical clearance. If need more I could add a few pieces of 2x14 for a foot. Good question since many are needing fuel pumps. How tall is the tank (do not have one out) ?I bought from someone local who delivered but can see at EverLift, Vehicle lift specialist*-*Short platform scissor lift*EE-MR30 . As mentioned there are a lot of similar (medium rise scissors lift) devices out there, I just needed one that could lift over 6500 lbs and the only other one I found under $3k was the Atlas Quick Bay.
