kdml
I am replacing the center bearing and support on my '65 driveshaft. I ordered new parts from Cars Inc and the bearing support looks slightly different. The first picture shows that the clips which hold the bearing in the support are not as deep as on the original. This will place the bearing support in a different location on the shaft. It will also make it so the slinger which sits behind the bearing does not fit into the bearing support as deep (pictures 2 and 3). Has anyone used this bearing support before? Is this a problem?ThanksDoug

JZRIV
I was hoping someone who recently did one of these would chime in. When the bearing assembly is installed on the shaft, if the slinger seats against a shoulder so it can't move and the assembly is positioned properly so the mounting holes line up I don't see any problem with it. Obviosuly the replacement part is not an identical match but it may still function the same. Since this has been a common item for CARS for many years I'd hope it will work. Its just difficult to know for sure without seeing first hand exactly how the difference between the two affects positioning. You could try posting over at V8Buick as well. It would be good to speak with someone who has "been there and done that".
kdml
Thanks JasonI will post over at V8 Buick to see if anyone has used the Cars version before. My bearing support is not in bad condition, so I may just press in a new bearing to the old supportDoug

fatbuick
I've only done about 5,000 miles on the Cars Inc center bearing support and it's failed. Started getting a vibration a few days ago under spirited take offs. The rubber has delaminated from the metal and I could move the shaft up and down about an inch.Have just replaced it today with one I bought locally which cost double the price of $187 so I hope it lasts longer. I seem to remember they were originally about that price from Cars Inc years ago. I wonder if the quality has gone down to match the price.
