Guest vacabill
Going to pull 6cyl flathead engine out of 32 olds. The manual states:(1) Remove No. 4 sparkplug and insert eye-lifting bolt HM-502 (I will probably have to make it) if I am going to use that as a lifting point(2) Attach chain hoist to the eye-lifting bolt and ease load off engine, then remove the two through bolts from each front engine support at engine.(3) after raising the engine off its support and before pulling it forward to clear dash make sure everything is disconnected. Lift engine out of frame. My question is:It only has one lifting point the No 4 spark plug shouldn't I have 2 lifting points? If anyone has done it. let me know or any suggestionsDo they number the cylinders from the front or rear of engine? Ben Bruce aka First Born
bill, last question first. Cyls are numbered front to back. I am not familier with your car, but will hazard a guess. Using #4 will probably balance the engine. Should be no problem using more than one, just not needed. Ben

CarlLaFong
Why not do what a million backyard mechanics have done since the beginning? Remove a head bolt from the front and one from the rear. Stick the bolts through each end of a short chain. Hook your lifting chain near the middle and yank it out.

Just don't forget to use body washers or the bolt may slip through the chain.
