i only have 1st and second gear..tv cable is Ok.

manual shifting is the same, no 3rd or 4th gear..

all vacuum lines are in place...i did find one going

into a canister under the washer tank disconnected

but that wasn't the problem I'm having.

Was this the only failure mode? Did it start shifting slowly from 2 to 3, or one day it just stopped shifting to 3 or 4? How many miles does the car have on it? I am taking mine to a friend who has his own shop and specializes in Lexus/Toyota trannys and engines and I will ask him if he has any ideas. He was able to repair mine that was sometimes shuddering or slow to shift 3 to 4.

Those speeds sound like the vac mod is working. I assume you have tried Seafoam TransTune ? Since the 440T4/4T60 has very little electrics (except for the TCC) it sounds like a stuck shuttle or worn band.

My Mechanic (ASE trained) said the same thing Padgett came up with. Since it was a sudden failure it may just be a stuck shuttle or band. He also told me he has worked on a bunch of these that had been abused. Normally with maintaince good for 150,000+ miles. Good Luck! Don't give up the car if the rest is good.

i love my reatta, but its a pain to work on..i hope i can get the transmission thing worked out..reading the factory service manual isn't any help

it was written for someone that understands whats being told, and they run you in circles ..

"it was written for someone that understands whats being told" - yes, service manuals and dash ones are written that way. See MIL-STD-38784

MIL-STD-38784, MILITARY STANDARD: MANUALS, TECHNICAL: GENERAL STYLE AND FORMAT REQUIREMENTS (02 JUL 1995)., This standard covers the general style and format requirements for the preparation of standard Technical Manuals (see 3.2.36 and 3.2.38) and changes to standard TMs. This includes all technical documents which are assigned a TM identification number and are to be controlled by a TM management information system or are subject to requisition from an inventory control point. In addition to ‘paper” deliverables, this standard provides for electronic delivery of data through use of the Document &pe Definitions (DTD) contained in Appendixes B through E. This general style and format standard supplements the various detail specifications for specific types of TMs and related publications and does not alone deliver any technical data. Examples at the rear of this standard are typical and may be adapted to fit the specific equipment or situation being covered.

Is it any wonder?
