Need Cylinder Head

Recommended Posts

I pulled the heads on my 63 Wagonaire Datona 259 because I had compression problems on two cylinders

Took heads to a head repairshop, both had burned valves. One is otherwise OK the other has a crack in a very expensive to fix area.

The head shop told me the # on the heads is1557570. Study Intl. has new ones for sale (expensive) and they say the # is 1557571. What is the difference between the two?

Would prefer to find a good used head and have my repair shop cleanit up

Anyone have one for sale?

Whats the diff. between 1557570 and1557571

I'm kinda laid up with a new knee for a while but it would be nice if I could get the heads ready to re-install when I'm back at full strength.

Any thoughts??

Dick

That is a casting number1557570 . The real part number is one digit higher 1557571

That is a high compression head for R1 engines.10.25:1

These were plentyfull in the past and someone that did not know what they were doing

installed these very cheap heads $25.00 each for the first 100 and cheaper when you bought more.

I do not have my books here but buy lower compression heads, unless you want to buy aviation gas t 100 octane.

If you find that you want these ,I have both good used ones and N.O.S. at very good prices.

I also have lower compression ones.

You can lower the compression by using thick head gaskets but that is limited.

Make sure you use the metal exhaust gaskets.

Studebaker used these because composite gaskets prevent proper heat transfer between the heads and block.

The uneven heating and cooling causes the heads to crack. (yours?)

If you crack the block , I have N.O.S and used ones of these also.

Shipping will be high from Joliet or South Bend.
