Guest mr.curosity
Recently,my wife and cleaned out her grandfathers garage and found this.Well,we know what it is (because it says so on the front in gigantic red letters ! ) but we would like to know what models and years this was used. We've searched the web and can't find any info on it.Any place to start would help, thank you ! The second pic is to show that it is a ''square'' bottle
auburnseeker
The GM style logo and the fact the jar has it painted on it would lead me to believe 1942 or earlier and quite possibly just the late 30's. Just a guess but by 47-48 GM put a decal on the bracket. I believe all of those jars were round as well. If you could find an online copy of say a 1939 Chevy accessories book that may be a start. I've seen the book before and it has alot of accessories for the late 30's in it with pictures of each accessory.
Guest mr.curosity
Thank you for yor reply Auburn,we had a notion it was from a fairly early model/s.We'll start doing our homework on that info you provided.Myfirst inclinationwas to remove the pump and save quarters in the jar! I doubt I'll do that now.

Guest mr.curosity
You sure did ! Would this have been an option / accessory or would this have been stock equipment that just came with maybe a higher end model ? Such as that maroon '37 Buick RoadMaster pictured in the gallery section of the forum.I think that just might be the most beautiful and alluring car of that period I have ever seen . drwatson
It's an accessory for a 1939 Chev. It might (can't verify) have been avail. for other GM's too. A 39 Chev accessory brochure can be read at "old car manual project" web site, however it doesn't show your bottle, just two ladies being wowed by a w-s washer stream as in attached pic. The same brochure does depict the "GM" logo as seen on your nice jug.

Grandpa
You have a prewar model. The vacuum operated pump is a slightly different design after the war. This design was used on all prewar GM cars (circa 1939 thru 1942) which had the washer option. The method of attaching the jar to the cap can vary depending on the car application. The jar design / shape is the same as the postwar ones. The rare item is actually the pump, rather than the glass jar.Grandpa
Guest mr.curosity
Well I'll be dipped............Looks like I'm right back to filling the jar with quarters again.I'm really amazed at the depth of knowledge on this forum. Thanks Grandpa !
