They have been chemically dipped to remove rust. The rust you see in the pics are a result of flashing ( light surface ) as there is no paint on these sides, bare metal. The fins are straight as they come, no holes or pitting on these side at all. If you know about these 31 Model 54's, you know how hard it is to find parts for them.
