Guest Randy G
Good afternoon,I just found this site and need some expert help. My hobby is metal detecting and today I found an item that I cannot identify. IT appears to be iron and says Dixie Flyer 1922. The only thing I can find on the internet is a car company that was based in Louisville Kentucky and manufactured cars from 1916-1922. Could this item be from a car and if so what part ?Any help would be appreciated.

F&J
You must be a relic hunter, if you are digging iron signals There is a member here who restored a Dixie Flyer, and I would bet he would know what part it is from. Might take a day or a few hours for the answer. Also, there is a member here who was MD'ing in what was a dump site used for cleanup of the great 1906 Cal earthquake/firestorm. He found most of a melted brass plate that those early cars had to have for registration or taxes. I find a few old car parts with mine.
oldcar
HelloThe best person to help you would be Dan Murphy at Kentucky Trailer (previously Kentucky Wagon Mfg Company) <DMurphy@kytrailer.com>The company is very aware of its history and interested in anything related to Dixie Flyers in particular. They now own the Dixie Flyer FireflyThey also built Old Hickory motor trucks in the late teens and early 20s. If you can find one of those it would be really something! During the period 1910 t0 1915 the also built an Electric Delivery vehicle. Starting in 1860s with horse-drawn Hickory wagons the company has been established in transportation right up to today. It has always been a family owned company.Bernie Jacobsonoldcar
