joe_padavano
Never been a big fan, I think 58Mustang has this clown figured out...Maybe, maybe not, but the fact remains that the last thing we need is for the general public (and Congress) to get this idea. Guest GrabberOrangeBullit
Bit rude, dont ya think? I wrote the "artist" and told him how I felt about his hurtful comments. We can all take a good natured joke, even at our own expense, but I found absolutely nothing humorous about this strip. I simply just don't get it. Is it a blonde thing? dan at larescorp
I believe this comic is based off of the authors lifelong acquired knowledge.....which is nothing. He proved that by making one of the first comic strips that had no style of comedy what so ever IMO. Im not just talking about this one.

stock_steve
I am an engineer and work in a large company, and so a lot of Dilbert humor has rung true over the years.I am puzzled and dismayed by this strip, though, I have to say.
Aaron65
There was a similar Dilbert strip about three years ago--I guess Scott Adams really doesn't like old cars! I wonder what they did to him??? Normally I like Dilbert...today's strikes me as a little ironic, considering the Dilbert character spent 10 hours in yesterday's strip checking his Facebook and Linked In accounts, along with watching "humorous" internet videos. Is that a worthwhile hobby? Am I a hypocrite for saying that on an internet forum?
Steve_Mack_CT
I hear ya Steve, but this strip just fits the now all too familliar media mode of "anyone in a position of authority must be an idiot" be it clergy, bosses at a company or parents. I remember an interview with the VP of "Nickelodeon" once when it first came out and she decribed that very attitude as what young people wanted and needed. Really? I am not saying authority is always right and never to be questioned, but this smarmy attitude is a big reason for many of society's problems today.Their are many, many things you would not dare make fun of (and truthfully most would be innapropriate to do so)in this PC world today, but old cars and old car people are part of the "old establishment" therefore fair game. Oh sH#%, I violated my New Year's resolution to avoid non "old car only" posts. Well, I think we all see eye to eye here anyway...Can't argue with your logic, Joe P., but how can you reach out to a group who is not interested? Best not to frustrate one's self, I think... trimacar
I agree with most of the comments. I, too, worked in the industrial/manufacturing area of business, and found that many times his strips and inherent comments were dead on. This particular strip just seems to be a nasty comment, one that your rude neighbor would make about "when are you going to move that junk Auburn out of your driveway and get a real car"?The other thing it shows, however unfortunately, is that the public perception of "antique car" is that they're worthless, unless a new running gear is installed. New new new, that's what a huge majority of people want these days. Look at all the antique and Classic cars that are having their running gear ripped out, in favor of the oh so common small block Chevy engine. The fun of old cars has always been, to me, fixing things as they failed, or restoring a car in such a way that a minimal amount of things might go wrong, but keeping them original. I believe we're starting to see, and will continue to see, more and more and more original cars with newer engines and running gear, because the owner wants it "reliable" or doesn't want to fool with any issues. These are the same cars that drove families across country and back, and every day, yet now they aren't "reliable". To me, it's that people have gotten lazy, taken shortcuts in restoring or maintaining the old cars, and now want to blame it on the Engineer that built that junk.....instead of just fixing it correctly and enjoying it...Yes, you may have to adjust the points every now and then, but that's part of the experience.OK, off my soapbox now.... Haven't looked at his strip in years, he jumped the shark a long time ago. What really surprises me is that the Koreans who draw his strip for him, still haven't developed any art talent after all these years. The strips must be computer generated now, including the so called "jokes".

rocketraider
Anyone who has ever worked in the corporate world can't help but find Dilbert funny. West has gotten the gist of the strip- that Dilbert and Wally HAVE no hobbies or even a life outside of work, ergo, they find anyone else's hobbies useless.I agree he could have chosen a better topic for them to attack. I find deer hunting and show dogs useless, but I work with people who live for those hobbies and I respect that's what interests them.

(only the truth hurts) I disagree with West on this one. Whether truthful or not, you should not make fun of another person's hobby, regardless of what the hobby is. I would bet that if some AACA editor had put this in their newsletter, he would lose his editorship, if not some local members. I saw the cartoon, but did not dwell on it, just like I never read Doonesbury Strips anymore. Speaking of making fun of people, stand by for an Editor's Forum post that supports my opinions. West Peterson
My question to you is this part of your statement: "whether truthful or not." A hobby is a hobby. There's no truth or untruth about it. Besides, the strip is making a mockery of the people making fun of someone's hobby. As I said, the joke is on ignorance of Dilbert and the other clown, not the hobby of restoring cars.

TheMoneyPit
Funny? Maybe & maybe not - but that is pretty much the reaction I get at work talking about my cars - but if someone is cleaning out an old barn they call me first. I can't take much offence to it considering the source is a comic who makes his living insulting people about every day life events. And yes, I'm an Engineer who reads Dilbert and have to admit that there have been more times than not when I've wondered if he were a co-worker just out of one of our meetings... Surely my wife is not the only one.DonWell, this wife thought the strip hurtful, a broadcast of disdain for the hobby, which could potentially draw yet more attention to getting our gal pals (cars) off of our Nation's highways. Whether or not Mr. Adams ever intended that result to be dispatched with this strip, its National viewership could ultimately result in stoking the fires again and add yet more restrictions resulting in less persons able/willing to keep and maintain these cars, and if crushed, less in the way of parts for those of us inclined to hang in and keep on hobbying. Guest Magoo
Just goes to show how people can read things differently. The way I took it, Scott Adams might well be an old car enthusiast himself and is poking fun at his own interests. I certainly wasn't offended. You know what they say: If you can't laugh at yourself, watch me--while I laugh at you.
caddyshack
I am not offended. I am just amused at how Dilbert is explaining the situation to his younger brother Dilbert and his older brother Scott. Dad, fortunately goes by the name Scott Adams, instead of his given name Dilbert Scott Adams. What's in a name anyway. I have known a few Dilberts back in the day, we all have. No big deal. Beware, coin collectors might be next.
joe_padavano
I find deer hunting and show dogs useless, Glenn,After a few deer strikes while driving here in NoVA (my wife bags an average of one a year), you begin to appreciate the value of deer hunting. I agree, however, that I fail to see the appeal of sitting out in the cold in a deer blind for hours on end. I'd much rather lie on a cold concrete floor under a car for hours on end.
