Guest MackenzieJimmy
I have a 1955 Buick Roadmaster with a 322 Nailhead. Runs great most of the time. But right now the spark comes and goes at the Points and is weak at times. Any idea what could be causing this? Points have been changed.Condensor has been changed.Coil has been changed. Still the same problemAny help would be greatly appreciated!
jackofalltrades70
check wire connections @ battery and your ground. Not only on the battery, but from the engine to the frame. Matt
1939_Buick
Are the coil & plug wires/leads in good condition / new ?
Joseph P. Indusi
All of the above are good advice. I think this car has a resistor in the ignition circuit to provide full 12 volts to the coil during starting but then switches the resistor into the circuit to reduce the voltage to the coil to prolong it's life. Find and check that resistor and the associated wiring.Joe, BCA 33493
Pete O
I believe that the circuit that brings power to the points runs through the the ignition switch. Might be a problem with that. I've attached a wiring diagram. As Joe mentioned, there is a resistor in the circuit too, which might be a source to look into. Follow the wires and make sure all the connections are bright and tight as Matt said.
