8014haar
Gentlemen,First of all, thanks for all the help with past issues I have encountered. Advice has been spot on. Today I am still trying trying the get the engine in my 34 coupe unstuck. To date I have removed the radiator and put a 3/4 drive socket on the crank nut it a lengthy piece of pipe on it, all in an effort to free up the engine. Water pump is off, rocker arm assy is off, lots of Kroil in the cylinders and I am afraid I will break off the crank nut if I try any harder to turn it. I guess I could rent a smal probe camera to check out whats going on in the cylinders, but the head needs restoring anyway. A little history on this engine. It was stored for nearly 40 years with oil and antifreeze in it. internals seem very clean. I took the lifter galley covers off to inspect for signs of water and lube up lifter assys. I guess my next step is to pull the head, but I was wondering how to get the gear drive generator off and perhaps inspect the crank and cam gears for damage. any thoughts?Greg
pacrat
my motor was seized pior to me buying it and the other guys cranked it so hard it broke the oil pump gears at cam seems the oil pump is the first thing to lockup ,just saying
8014haar
Thanks for your response. So if I understand what you are suggesting, if I drop the oil pan, I can remove the oil pump and free the engine up, or is the lockup inside the block or on the front of the engine? Guest buckfarmer
My 30-64 was locked up when I got it. I wound up removing the head. Mine was frozen to the cylinder wall. I tried all sorts of concoctions to free it up. In the end it was a 50:50 solution of acetone and ATF that did it. After about 4 days of soaking I was able to turn the crank with a tool I made to go in the crank hole. Worked great, I would try that before anything else if I had a stuck engine again. 8014haar
Have heard of the acetone/ATF idea. I will take your advice and try this first. I assume I can try this without taking the head off, just the plugs out. I have already removed the rocker arm. I was planning on removing the pan anyway to clean sludge out and possibly repair/replace the oil pump.
Guest buckfarmer
Absolutely can do this with head on. The acetone will get into the oil pan so you must remove and clean it. Also another note, I added some each day because some of the cylinders would be dry overnight.( I think these ones weren't probably stuck) but added anyway
