Dosmo Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Someone posted this image on Facebook as being their grandparents car. Wanted to know if anyone could confirm this as being a 1921 Oakland. I'm pretty sure it's not a 1921 anything. I'm thinking it's much closer to 1930. Anyway, thanks in advance for responding.
James B. Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 The shape of the center cap of the wire wheel looks like Essex... probably a 1931 Essex?
R Walling Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Its not a 31 essex, may be a 32? The hood louvers are too short for a 31.
James B. Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 (edited) If a 1932 could be a Essex Terraplane... Hudson, Essex and Terraplane all became one company about this time and all except Hudson used that hexagon center shape.1932 Essex Terraplane 2-door above. Edited January 27, 2013 by James B. Dandy Dave Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 (edited) Here's a Coupe around the same year. 1932 vintage. Listed as a Terraplane with Orville Wright in the Photo. I think this nails it down. Dandy Dave! Google Image Result for http://www.kitfoster.com/images/2009-3-25_1932TerraOWrightWeb-Large.jpg Edited January 27, 2013 by Dandy Dave (see edit history)
nzcarnerd Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 This one is a 1932 Essex Terraplane, introduced in July 1932 to replace the 1932 Essex. It is distinguishable by the twin rows of hood louvres. The 1933 model looked similar though had semi-skirted fenders but did not have the windshield visor.
