Brad in Wisconsin
Have this oddity of a Hi-way mower that has a Ford O-head valve six in it. I found out it built in the 1952 to 54 range. I pulled the fuel pump to get a replacement as years ago an electric pump had been installed . When I pulled the pump, there was no pump finger or what ever the dinkus that rubs against the cam is called. There seems to be no need of a rod rod inside and the cam is close enough soas I can stick my little finger in and feel the camshaft turn when I turn the engine over. The pump that was on it is an A/C with a number of 236X40957. I've looked on Evil-bay and have seen numerous types of pumps for sale that supposedly fit my engine but don't look like mine Mine has no sediment bulb and such. Do numerous types of pumps fit or ????? Thanks Brad
Guest Commodore
I would not worry about that AC pump that is installed on your engine. It probably isn't for your engine and was some thing stuck on to fill the fuel pump hole as a electric pump was used. You can still get fuel pumps for your engine at your local auto part store, Airtex 9787 or Carter M2278. The orginal pump was a Ford EAA9350E which was replaced by Ford B4A9350B. The Ford B4A9350B still can found at classic Ford parts dealers. I am not sure I would trust an OEM pump with todays gas unless it was rebuild with modern parts. Dandy Dave
I worked on a 223 inline 6 Ford engine a while back. Instead of the fuel pump check valves being made of fiber board like in the old days, the check valves were made of a plastic similar to neoprene. It was a new pump from a local supplier. The Corn Squeezins in this modern fuel we now have made the check valves swell in a week or two, and prevented the pump from working. So, even the "New Pump" did not work with the new fuel.
