Brad in Wisconsin
spent the last 50 or so years filling a silo as a power unit. Was told it was a Packard. I said to the man didn't know they made a O-head engine but the Junkman insisted. Rule no. 1 never argue with someone you want to buy things from. What do you guys think? Thinking Hudson? Layden B
The triangular cutouts on the clutch bell housing are distinctive Hudson. If you have access to it, serial number and info off the distributor, starter and generator would be helpful.
paulrhd29nz
28 Hudson. It has a 29 heat risser and carb on it. 29 did not have the glass site oil gauge on it as 29 was the first year for the in dash electric gauge. Some early ones had the site glass I might add.Another way to tell 28/29 is the casting on the crank case was changed in 29. On the rear frame horns, 29 has a good sized notch, close to the mounting bolts, sloping to the rear. they finally did this to get some more peddle clearance. 28 and earlier the rear casting is smooth and all on the same plain right over the trans hump to the other side.I wounder what the gizmo is that is on the left side running off the fan belt?Worth saving for sure! paulrhd29nz
The gizmo must be a governor.

drwatson
I see what looks like an id tag on engine's left side, toward bell housing. Edited January 17, 2013 by drwatson (see edit history)
paulrhd29nz
That tag, is instructions for the oiling system, not an ID tag
