abc99 Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 the photo has a date stamp on the back of Feb. 10,1931, anyone have an idea of the model and year???( My Dads 21th birthay back in '31)
keiser31 Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 (edited) Looks like a 1928 Chrysler to me. Similar to this Model 72 without the sidemounts and wire wheels. Edited December 30, 2012 by keiser31 (see edit history)
Woodfiddler Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 (edited) John - I beg to differ. Looks more like a 1929 Packard 640 per the double body line to the the cars front.Chuck Edited December 31, 2012 by Woodfiddler typo (see edit history)

The Chrysler has the same double belt molding line. The Packard windshield stanchions are splayed outward unlike the Chrysler's which go straight upward toward the back, not out to the sides. Wheels and hubcaps are definitely Chrysler. Edited December 31, 2012 by keiser31 (see edit history)
Woodfiddler Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 John - I beg for forgiveness. I see your points now and have a better photo for comparison. Thanks, again, for the lesson. Happy New Year. Chuck
Woodfiddler Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 abc99 / John - what is the chrome looking item he is holding between his knees? Any ideas?Chuck
keiser31 Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I can only imagine that as being an accessory running board light that you can see between his knees (mounted on the splash apron). I'm sure if it isn't, there's a great story there that we will never know.
UCGHandyman Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Keiser, you're King! And you're FAST too! ;-) You must have a great memory & probably a large amount of experience of having seen older cars. While the Packard is very close, after quite a bit of comparing I saw the wider rear fenders, splayed windshield mounts & chrome-rimmed wind deflector panes. Hahaha..
keiser31 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 (edited) Actually, that thingy on the splash apron looks to be one of those accessory "jeweled" running board lights.... Edited January 1, 2013 by keiser31 (see edit history)
Erndog Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I think it is more likely the head of a golf club, considering his arm positions.
keiser31 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Maybe a faceted light something like these.....only on a half-round band.
abc99 Posted February 9, 2013 Author Posted February 9, 2013 Thanks gentlemen for your knowlegable input, not sure what the chrome item was, don't recall any golfing stories, but the next family doing I'll throw that out there. Maybe a moonshine storage access device...
