1956 2-door Roadmaster gas tank

I am beginning an attempt to source a gas tank for my fathers' 2-door 56' Roadmaster. Is this a stand alone tank as far as design. Tanks Inc. catalog runs from 41-54 only. I myself am not interested in an aftermarket tank. Would other years work? Would a super or 4-door roadmaster work? Thanks for all who can help. Matt.

Not sure of the difference between Century and Roadmaster, but I just helped a friend install a new tank in his '56 Century using a Tank's Inc. tank, part #B1-B. I just had to carefully measure for the filler neck offset before ordering since there are 4 possibilities. When measuring for the offset, keep in mind that the 31.5" dimension runs side-to-side, and the 27.5" dimension runs front-to-back. Of course the car my friend bought did not have a tank to begin with, so I had nothing to compare to for a replacement. I measured from the rear of the tank mounting area to the center of the opening where the filler neck goes up through, then subtracted that number from the overall 27.5" tank dimension to get my neck offset dimension. Guess I lucked out as the tank fit perfectly. I also used Tank's other related components to complete the installation: a B1-S fuel sending unit, B1-STA pair of tank straps (style A), and TC gas cap. Hope this info helps.

Dave

Hollander says a 1953 Super or Roadmaster fits your 56, but tha's it.

Where are located?

edit) Several sites claim '41 thru '54 so don't know why a repro 53 wouldn't work. If you have the old tank and can give good dimensions, I'm sure somebody can match it up
