1920 Ranger

Recommended Posts

A contemporary photo of a 1920 Ranger Model A-20 4-cylinder tourer, manufactured by the Southern Motors Manufacturing Association in Houston.

The history of the Ranger is very murky. The company was in receivership by late 1922, and in 1924 fourteen people involved in the company were indicted for fraud. It is believed that the company was set up as a front to embezzle money from prospective investors. The handful of A-20 cars built were shuffled between the factory on the outskirts of Houston, and the dealership in downtown Houston, to give the appearance of regular production.
