They were an accessory. IF you could afford it, "ask the salesman who sells one." (when buying a new packard car)

Put in on ebay or post it on PackardInfo - they are relatively common (as Packard parts go) but have a ready market. Show the "PACKARD" stamping - there is an aftermarket part that is very similar in appearance but worth less since it's not the factory accessory.

Is the word packard stamped in ROMAN lettering or the aftermarket STICK lettering. I agree with bkazmer. The statement with the salesman was intended to be a play on word's with the Packard motto...."ask the man who owns one".
