TexRiv_63 Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 I found this Detroit Electric Hubcap at a flea market today, it's heavy cast aluminum 3 5/8" wide with a brass logo plate. I've never seen anything from this make before, does anyone know what year it is from or any other information about the car?
keiser31 Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 (edited) NICE score!!! Looks to be a 1914 cap to me. Edited December 16, 2012 by keiser31 (see edit history)
TexRiv_63 Posted December 16, 2012 Author Posted December 16, 2012 I spent more time looking online, Google is a wonderful thing. The 1914 hubcaps I saw did not match but I did find a pretty close match on a 1931 car that Auctions America sold at Auburn in 2010. The cap appears the same except the hex base is solid rather than milled in the center. Are there any hubcap collectors out there with any Detroit caps?
drwatson Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 (edited) There'a a similar cap at this site:Threaded Hubcap Photos and Information - Anderson Electric - hubcapcollector.com Edited December 16, 2012 by drwatson link (see edit history)
TexRiv_63 Posted December 17, 2012 Author Posted December 17, 2012 There'a a similar cap at this site:Threaded Hubcap Photos and Information - Anderson Electric - hubcapcollector.comThat is it, the only difference is the name Anderson Carriage Co. versus Detroit Electric Car Co. on my cap, I'll check to see if that might help with year identification.
TexRiv_63 Posted December 17, 2012 Author Posted December 17, 2012 According to Wikipedia the name of the company changed from Anderson Carriage to Detroit Electric in 1920 so I guess my cap was used from 1920 into the early 30s.
