For Sale 1957 Daimler Conquest Century 100

Ultra rare English luxury sport saloon from England’s oldest auto manufacturer. Founded in 1896, the English Daimler was a licensee of the famous German company and was the car of choice of Prince Edward, later HM King Edward VI. The royal family continued their use of Daimlers as official state vehicles until the 1950’s. The late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, continued to use Daimlers until her recent death. Far more exclusive than a Roll-Royce, Daimlers sold in tiny numbers before WW2. The new economic realities of the late 1940s forced Daimler, now part of BSA, to realize the need for a smaller, lower priced but still high quality car to compete in the post-war market. Thus was born the Daimler Conquest, so named for its original list price of 1066 pounds sterling before tax. This car was improved with a higher performance engine and minor body and trim upgrades into the Conquest Century model. The 2.5 liter straight six developed 100hp and was tied to Daimler’s famous “Fluid Flywheel” preselect transmission, last offered in 1957. This original, unrestored car was purchased new by the United States government and we believe was stationed at the embassy in London. This car is in fairly rough shape. Interior is fairly solid, if dirty with very nice burled walnut dash and trim and can be restored easily, engine is missing only carbs (standard 1½ SU carbs). Body is solid but will need metal replaced on the cowl and the bottom of the doors. A full restoration candidate for a truly unique car. Believed to be one of seven in the US. Asking $3,500 obo.

The car is located in Birmingham, Alabama
