Guest jmar183 Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Hello new to this forum. Recently bought a 1965 Riv was thinking of putting in headers was just wondering where to start looking and or if its a good idea. Thanks
RivNut Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 You won't gain that much horsepower over stock cast iron manifolds, but you do get to fight burned out gaskets, leaks, and loose header bolts. Depends on what trips your trigger. Look at Sandersons and/or TA Performance. Each make a 'shorty' header designed to replace the existing manifolds w/o modifying the exhaust pipes. There's a slight difference in the diameters of the two headers but as I said, you don't gain that much over stock so a 1/16"or so probably won't be noticeable.Ed
Guest jmar183 Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Thanks. I was really thinking about doing it for sound purposes.
Guest Rob J Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 For Sound purposes, I would not mess with the stock manifolds, and just change out the stock muffler. You can also eliminate the 2 stock resonators if you are interested in a louder and deeper V8 Rumbling sound.
Guest REX STALLION Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Flowmaster makes a 2 in 2 out muffler for a Camero that will fit . When I first got my `64 I thought about headers and louder pipes I decided that 340 hp was enough power and the stock muffler without the resonators was just right...an understated rumble...
