Guest mandysterdam Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Hi,Can anyone confirm that this is a 1961 Mercury Comet?Thanks,Amanda20-Comet 1K11s810259.pdf
keiser31 Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Yes....1961. On a lot of cars you can see the last two numbers of the year built on the lens. Look close and you will see the raised numbers.
Bleach Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Without a doubt it is a '61. My grandfather had one and I remember it well.
Guest Commodore Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 The VIN given in the PDF file name 1K11S810259 decodes as follows. The first number on the left is the Model Year ID. The number "1" equals 1961. The second letter is the Assembly Plant. "K" is Kansas City. The next two numbers is the Body Series. The number "11" is for a 2-Door Sedan. The next letter is the Engine ID. The letter "S" equals a 144 Cubic Inch Displacement six cylinder. The rest of the numbers is the consecutive unit number. The 1961 Comet consecutive unit number started with 800,001.
