ply33
Sounds like that vehicle is fitted with a sealed canister oil filter where the whole unit was designed to be thrown away. WIX was the last mainstream manufacturer of that and they stopped making them more than 10 years ago. I believe that Roberts shows them in their catalog and old stock ones are available on ePay.There were a variety of factory and after market oil filter housings that were available to replace that which take still available cartridges. Swap meets or ePay is probably your best place for those.I don't have a parts book for the that era Dodge, but mechanically they were pretty similar to Plymouth and the information I have on Plymouth filter at Plymouth Parts Interchange: Group 10 — Engine Oiling might be of some help. Guest 1930
You would have to show a picture of what you have but I believe in 38 the canister was in the wix fashion, I can check for you if no-one else knows for sure
1936 D2
Here is what an NOS replaceable element one looks like for the '38. (But I would NEVER pay that price, THAT's for sure!)1930s 1940s 1950s Mopar Plymouth Dodge Chrysler DeSoto Oil Filter | eBayI found this quote on Summit Racing's web page... "Wix Filters: Wix has been making filters for cars, trucks, ATVs, motorcycles, tractors, and more since 1939." jpage
I have a restored Fram cartridge type unit that was a popular replacement unit for the original sealed cans. It has a removable top and an adjustable mounting bracket that mounts to the original mounting holes on the rear left side of the head. If you're interested pm me with your email address and I'll send you some pics. The replacement cartridges should still be available from any good auto store that sells Fram, wix or NAPA products.
